ConvertFiles vs the big file-converter suites
The suites convert everything from CAD to ebooks — and charge like it. ConvertFiles is documents-forward: Office and PDF done with real engines, plus the image, audio and video conversions working life actually needs, free and unstored.
| ConvertFiles | the big file-converter suites | |
|---|---|---|
| Price | Free — supported by one short ad before each job | Often “freemium”: the first job is free, then subscriptions and credits appear |
| Sign-up | None — no account exists | Often required before repeat or advanced jobs |
| Watermarks | Never — output is the clean file | Common on free tiers; removing them is a classic upsell |
| Upload limit | 200 MB per file | Free tiers typically cap uploads well below 200 MB |
| Daily caps | No per-day job counter; fair-use rate limits apply | Free tiers commonly limit jobs per day |
| Your files | Processed in a temp folder, deleted the moment you download | Varies — retention is often unclear or account-based |
| Tools in one place | 121 tools on this one site | Usually one job per site — a relay of uploads for a chain of jobs |
Real engines, honest documents
PDF to Word here rebuilds genuine editable text; Office to PDF renders through a proper office engine so layouts survive. Suite demos often show the same — then cap free use at a small daily document allowance. Here there is no daily document quota.
Your files are not the archive
Suites keep your conversions in an account library — convenient, and a permanent copy of your contracts on someone else’s server. ConvertFiles has no accounts: files are processed in a temp folder and deleted at download.
The honest bit
Where the big suites win: tracked-changes collaboration, e-signatures and OCR for scans are real features outside this bench’s scope — our PDF tools are upfront that scans need OCR. For converting the files people actually send each other, in both directions, free and unstored, the deciding factors live here.

FAQ
What document conversions are covered?
Word, Excel and PowerPoint (including older and open formats) to PDF, and PDF back to editable Word, images or text — plus merge, split, rotate, compress, protect and unlock.
What is not covered?
OCR for scans, e-signatures and exotic formats (CAD, ebooks). The suites keep those crowns; we say so plainly.
